I've missed the art of writing. It feels good to stretch my chops. I'm looking forward to keeping this going. Who knows, I might even get something published.
WEEK 2
Not so good. I've been a bad monkey this week. I didn't write nearly enough. There were several days I didn't even pick up my pen. I spent too much time surfing the Internet and reading Twitter posts while JT watched Dora this week. That and there were a couple of days that we were out in the afternoon.
Is it sad that I'm going to have to rededicate myself to this after only two weeks? Maybe I can live with one good week and one bad week. Or maybe I can use this bad week as motivation to get back on the wagon and get a couple of these projects finished. Of course, if the state legislature fails to get a budget passed in the next month, I may have plenty of time to write. Hmmm.
Week 3
Didn't do much better. I'm blaming it on my sinuses this time. I've been rundown and feeling poopy all week, plus dealing with our reunion weekend activities drained me. I did get a few pages written on the story I've been writing. Still not real sure where it's going, but it's fun to sit down and let my pen do some walking down the page.
I've got some work related writing to do this week, and I'm going to keep going on this story. Might post some of it next week if I think it's good enough. My plan is to type it up once I get to a good stopping point. After that, I might post a snippet or two. Another word that I love: Snippet. I might just have to rename this blog Scott's Sporadic Snippets. How cool is that!
Week 4
I wrote for work this week. Worked on some letters, some basic designs, and some brochure text. I also wrote a couple of pages on my story. Not as much as I would like to have written, but I did get some written.
I haven't started typing it yet. I'm not to the place that I want to be to try that yet. I'm curious to see how many typed pages come from the written ones, but I'm still waiting. Maybe next week.
Week 5
Second verse, same as the first. I did get some writing done for work again this week. I wrote a few pages on the story I've been focusing on as well.
We recently bought some chairs for the backyard. I really enjoy sitting out there and writing while my son plays in the yard, but it's hard to write on paper when the rain is beating down all week. So, I'm taking a cue from Milli Vanilli this week and blaming it on the rain. Admit it, you're hearing it in your head right now.
"Blame it on the Rain that was fallin, fallin." If not, you're too young.
Week 6
Mommy was out of town this week. I added a couple of pages to my story early in the week, but got caught up in Heroes after the little guy went to bed every night. I'm getting close to the end of the third season and took advantage of having the tv to myself at night. I probably should have written some more, but oh well.
I have been thinking about the story some today while in the truck and while lying in the rolling table at the chiropractor's office. Another excuse for my lack of writing (I know, excuses are like armpits, we've all got them and most of them stink. Adults feel free to substitute for arm pits.) is my sinuses. They don't like this weather. But I digress. My story that I'm working on was actually initially conceived in a chiropractor's office in Bowling Green. I was lying on the rolling table and my mind started wandering. The story begins in a chiropractor's office and is initially a big part of the story. Somehow, as I finally started writing it, the chiropractor's office faded into the background. I've been thinking today about how I need to reincorporate it into the flow of the story.
I think this might help with a problem I'm having with it right now. The last few writing sessions I've had, I've had a feeling that I'm starting to get stuck. I'm at a point where I don't really know where the story is going or where the next step is going to be. I'm thinking that I need to get it on the computer and revise what I've got before I can move on to the next step. I might just try to get that done this weekend. I've got some writing for work coming up as well.
Hopefully, next Friday I will a glowing report and a stack of finished pages to reread. Wish me luck!
Week 7
I started out promising over the weekend. I reread my story and found the spot to add some depth. I ripped pages out of my legal pad and put them aside for now, focusing on this new stuff. I'm planning to add the stuff I ripped out back in later. I realized I was rushing a bit, so I'm fleshing out some issues. You'll see when it's published. Notice I said when. Mwahhaaahhahaa!!!
Then the sickness came. I've been on the couch pretty much since Tuesday night. I took off work Wednesday and Thursday and watched cheesy movies and cheesier old tv shows. (On a side note, I'm really surprised that the Tick only got 9 episodes. I laughed heartily at the blue-clad do gooder and his trusty sidekick, Arthur.)
So we begin again. Seventh verse, same as the first. I'm going to lick this story. Eventually. Promise.
Week 8
I've been at this for nearly two months now. I had a pretty good week, even though JT was sick in the middle. I started a new story. Just a page or so. I wrote a new blog about a book that I really liked. I also wrote the first poem I've written purely to write one in a very long time. I think it turned out pretty good. I haven't looked at it since I wrote it though. Could just be the writing hangover. Who knows. Guess I should pull it back out this weekend and look at it again.
I also worked on some work writing too. Got a couple of projects moved ahead and started on others as well. That stuff isn't quite as fun, but it is still writing.
So this week, my plan is to get back to my stories and keep them moving. The one that I started first is coming back up in my mind a lot this week. I may have to go back to that and get it moving again. The new story I started this week could fit into that story. Hmm. Might be a new starting point to get back into that story.
Week 9
I was right. I got back into the first story with that "new" story I started last week. It was nice to come back to it. Felt like slipping on an old sweatshirt that is broken in just right. Like that Western Kentucky one that I have that my parents got me after my first semester there. I still wear it a lot. The letters are coming off a little, but I don't care. Love that shirt.
I also added a new poem up above. Thought someone might like it. I don't really know how to take it. I didn't change anything. It was a flowing thing I wrote in just a couple of minutes. I don't know that i'll ever really understand where my poetry comes from. I don't even really think about it. It just kind of flows out of me. I rarely change anything after the initial writing.
So this week, I'm hoping to get a little more time to write, but I've really gotten back into The Stand. I started rereading it a couple of weeks ago, and it's becoming harder to put down. We'll see.
