Going into it, I knew my cholesterol was high. It runs in my family. No big shock when that came back high. The doctor suggested (very strongly) that I begin a medication for that. Knew that was coming.
What I didn't expect was the diabetes. My sugar was nearly 200 in the first test. Diabetes range starts at 125. The three-month average number should be around 6, mine was 9. When I went back for my follow-up, my sugar was 161. So now I'm taking meds for that and changing the diet big time. No sweets, very little carbs. No fun. Seems to be working though. My sugar was 111 Thursday morning the last time I checked it.
But, our story doesn't end there. My liver function was also abnormal, so the doc sent me for an ultrasound on my liver. It showed fat pockets and what could be cirrhosis. So I went to have a CT scan on the liver yesterday to check on that. Should know something on Monday for that and I'll post on this blog then.
My friends and family who know what's going on already have been very supportive. It's been a trying couple of weeks and this stuff hit me like a ton of bricks, but I'm ready now to do what it takes to stay around for a little while. So don't worry about me. There are many people out there in much worse shape than me. I'm feeling good, otherwise very healthy
